In 2016, Atlanta received its first service from Gulf carriers with the addition of a Qatar Airways flight.

With notably low international options, Atlanta sought Qatar Airways to help expand passenger choices. In 2016, Mayor Kasim Reed stated there’s, “a need to diversify the carriers that we have at Hartsfield-Jackson. I think we have certainly shown our faith and confidence in our relationship with Delta but we also understand that we are in an international marketplace where having competition and connectivity is going to help strengthen our region and our state’s economy.”

The new route is expected to have $12 million annual economic impact on the metro Atlanta area.
